Plastic NOT so Fantastic

July 03, 2020

Plastic NOT so Fantastic
I hope this isn’t news to anyone but it is important to highlight its impact for the purpose of changing behaviour.
.
Plastic was invented in the early 1900’s and since, it’s production accelerated after WW2 positively transforming the modern age. However the convenience and low cost of production has sadly lead to a ‘throw away’ culture that needs to change.
.
We need millions of people doing zero waste imperfectly.
.
Some plastic products have a life span of minutes, yet they can persist in the environment for centuries becoming a hindrance on our eco-system, especially in our oceans. Hundreds of images have been burnt into our brain of helpless ocean creatures clutching onto cotton buds or trapped in beer rings. We’ve travelled to some of the most picturesque places in the world and piles of trash shuffle around on the dirt tracked roads or on the side of the beach. We go into our supermarkets and are inundated with products that are unnecessarily strangled in plastic, bananas in bags might save you a few pence but the cumulative cost on the environment is unacceptable.
.
  • Since it's production over 79% of plastic has ended up in landfills or our oceans.
  • The amount of plastic produced since its invention weighs roughly the same as a billion elephants or 47 million blue whales.
  • Human's ingest 1 credit card worth of plastic a week from its residual impact on our resources.
Plastic Production
We have the power to change it, small differences in our daily choices by many humans can cultivate change beyond belief and now is the time.
