Natural shampoo bars have all the goodness minus the plastic and chemicals. All our shampoo and conditioner bars are "free from parabens..", this was a key term I kept hearing about when researching shampoo...so I wanted to dig a little deeper and ask the key questions.. "what's a paraben and why should I be worried about it?"
Simple answer, Parabens are a group of chemicals, and YES we should be very worried..
When I googled "Parabens meaning", to start inputting some knowledge into my mind on the topic, google brilliantly plonked out a quick definition..
I followed this search on and googled "parabens" to try and get the scientific definition, chemical compounds or something that might lead me to ask more questions and this is what came up..
A paid search advert from Pantene, explaining what parabens are and WHY they are not all bad. Their argument:
"There are some concerns around very high concentrations of parabens in products, but fortunately, regulations are in place to ensure a ‘safe level’ and that the relevant product forms are OK to use parabens. " Pantene Website
The irony of the situation, that a proportion of Pantene's media budget is used to protect the negative press around parabens, makes me hate them even more.
When you dig further into "FDA approval", which is the governing body for food and drugs, there are open cases and research being conducted to understand Parabens further. Many scientific studies prove that parabens to disrupt hormone function by mimicking oestrogen. Too much oestrogen can trigger an increase in breast cell division and growth of tumours, which is why paraben use has been linked to breast cancer and reproductive issues.
My thoughts, if we are sitting here questioning whether a chemical is good or bad for our health and there is a natural alternative, the natural alternative always wins. In this instance, parabens or not, these natural shampoo bars are the epitome of CLEAN beauty with none of the nasties.
